Sappi
awards V&A order for valve automation packages
on 11 digester
Valve & Automation have been awarded the order
for NAF manual, on/off and control valves for
the 11 x new digesters that Sappi are installing.
Equipment includes NAF on/off Duball ball valves
in special alloys, Richter lined valves for chemical
handling and Stafsjö knife gate valves. In
excess of 400 pieces up to DN900 have been ordered
for the project so far.
The
NAF-Linkit valve position controllers with Profibus
communication were been selected for their ability
to communicate with the ABB control system. The
NAF valve package has a modular design concept
enabling each component (Valve / actuator / position)
to be directly mounted without the need for special
brackets.
The
project includes a new set of 11 magnesium cooking
digesters and associated chip loading, new evaporator
plants, a new magnesium oxide and sulphur dioxide
recovery plant and boiler. A new turbine/generator
set to match the new recovery boiler. A new bleach
plant and pulp machine, an upgrade to the existing
chlorine dioxide plant is also planned.
NAF-Duball
can be used both as a control valve and as a shut-off
valve, in a wide variety of applications and in
different operating modes. The valve represents
a concrete result of our product philosophy which
is focused on functionality, high quality and
low life cycle costs, and is based on concentrating
our range to a limited number of valve types,
but all of them suitable for a wide variety of
applications. The excellent characteristics of
NAF-Duball are particularly beneficial under the
most arduous operating conditions in the process
industry, where difficult media and demanding
pressure conditions make severe demands on the
design, materials and performance.
