FDT/DTM technology for ARCA positioners

Besides the possibility to integrate field devices via DDL into engineering and control systems the FDT/ DTM technology makes a new interface available, that is independent of the manufacturer. It facilitates the use of noncyclical operations as well as standardizes the display of the present state of the positioner and of configuration and diagnosis data. The FDT-Software (Field Device Tool, z.B. PACTware, FieldCare) in the control system integrates the device specific DTM’s (Device Type Manager) of the field devices into the control system and provides a standardized surface for the display.

The intelligent positioners of the second generation ARCAPRO® Type 827A with Profibus PA communication now offer this possibility as an alternative to the DDL concept. The DTM (Device Type Manager), which is developed on the basis of the FDT specification 1.2, especially facilitates the use of the enhanced diagnosis for the planning of preventive maintenance and therewith helps to prevent plant standstills and unnecessary maintenance work. In this way the availability of procedural plants can be increased and therewith allows substantial cost savings.
