Previous Phases
HCL Burner Phase
This phase of the chemical plant upgrade involved debottlenecking and replacing ageing infrastructure.
The caustic used in the chemical plant is produced in brine / caustic electrolysers, with a byproduct of this process being chlorine (Cl), which is used to produce Hydrochloric Acid (HCL) and Sodium Hypochlorite (NaClO).
Operations director of V&A, Greg Woolfuth says: “What made this upgrade different, was that the area classification for the HCL Burner is located in Zone 1 or 2 Gas Group IIC and T6. There is hydrogen (H2) and nitrogen (N2) in the process and hence require the special zoning. This brings along the safety interlocks on the system for position indication and fail action.”
In addition, the valves are also used on the following processes:
- Sodium Chlorate (NaClO3)
- Hydrogen gas (H)
- Chlorine dioxide (ClO2)
- Sulphur Dioxide (SO2)
This Phase – >120 pieces manual, on/off and control valves
- Richter KN series lined ball valves & KNR lined ball control valves
- Richter NK series lined butterfly valves
